Alright, so I'm gonna be working on a couple o' lists for 2009, since I don't really wanna do that summing up the year entry thing that I used to love to do. Considering everything that happened in the last year, I think it would be just too huge an undertaking. So instead, I'm gonna make a whole bunch of lists of things that I think will show the siginificant factors that contributed to last year.
And we start with, of course, music.
These albums are the albums that I consider to have shaped the mood and general theme of the last year. Basically, most of these albums are old and/or I've already been listening to the artist for years, but they held a more important significance in 2009. So, enjoy!
10. Death Cab For Cutie - Narrow Stairs/Plans
A rediscovery of the old. I got the discog and, I dunno, maybe it was apt for the mood of the year, but these two albums just meant more to me this time around. Maybe I could understand the songs more, who knows.
My favorite tracks from from Narrow Stairs would be "I Will Possess Your Heart" and from Plans, "What Sarah Said?" and "Your Heart Is An Empty Room."
9. Copeland - In Motion
This has always been my favorite Copeland album, so it was the first one that I got when I got my new computer. Just as what happened with Death Cab, it just fit when I listened to it this time around. Don't you just love it when that happens?
My favorite track is "Choose The One Who Loves You Most"
8. Don't Forget, Clementine - Grace, and Dragging Her Wings I posted about them once before here, but if you're curious about them, you should head on over to their myspace to have a listen, and then hit up their Facebook Group if you want to buy a copy of the album for PhP250. Or you could ask me! Hahaha. My favorite tracks are "Meet Me In Montauk" and "Airports." 7. Something Corporate - Songs For Silent Movies
Late, I know, because this is a really old album. I would like to thank my emo music sponsor Francis Apolinar for introducing them to me. Hahaha. Favorite tracks is definitely "Konstantine." 6. Blink 182 Favorites are still "Feeling This" "Anthem" "Dammit" and "Always"
Maaaaajor discovery! I've always been a Blink fan but I'd never really listened to ALL their songs. Now I have. And I've listened over and over and over and over. Probably about 3/4 of the year I had a Blink song running in my head. Hahaha.
5. Tonight We Sleep
Now they don't have an album just yet (AHEM AHEM) but these boys and their music ruled most of the 2009. Numerous fund raising gigs, recordings, and I don't know how many "how the hell are we going to get the money for the damn album?" sleepless nights. Yep. Definitely defines my 2009. Check our their myspace. Favorite song of their is "Angels Leave In November" 4. The Wicked Soundtrack I can't tell you how many mornings I spent this year just laying in bed, not wanting to go to class, listening and singing along to this soundtrack. I fell in love with it, just complete and utter love!
Favorite tracks are "Defying Gravity" "Popular" and "I'm Not That Girl."
3. Carlos Castano / City Lights Soundtrack
This man and this music has very much affected me and the mood of this year. For reals. He helps me feel. Hahahahaaha! Head on over to citylightsoundtrack.com to hear and download some of his stuff. I swear, you won't regret the click. :) (And I didn't know he used this photo! Was pleasantly surprised hahaha thanks Carlos! If you ever get to read this.) Favorite tracks are "Lover" and "Runaway" 2. Kings of Leon - Only By The Night Now, I only got this album because I found the single ("Use Somebody") that was being played in my sister's station (Underground Radio 105.9! Hahahaha shameless plugging) really catchy. It was, as my friend Butch ( drty ) says, love at first listen. It has, since then, been the theme of plenty of my nights as a college senior. It may not be the number 1 album of 2009 but it's definitely the top on my list for my last year of college (that list, of course, isn't done yet since the school year isn't done yet.) My favorite tracks off the album are "Manhattan" and "Revelry"
1. Barcelona - Absolutes
The credit for my discovering this artist and album goes Eo Marcos. After listening to the first song that was recommended, "Come Back When You Can," I got the album and just fell in love. It is absolutely perfect for its genre, I think, and I am a complete sucker for good driving-around-music, and this band and album is perfect. His voice, their lyrics, the melodies when mixed together to make the perfect soundtrack for a quiet road trip at night. Seriously. Get this album.
My favorite songs off the album are "Stars" and "Come Back When You Can"
